Ringing In a Hellish Year

Fresh off her triumphant conquest of the infamous Hellgate 100k in December of 2025, Lexi DeLisle has submitted an overview of that race, and of her brilliant year on the trails, with a report that she has entitled: “Ring’ing In a “HELLISH” Year: Furbutt’s Backyard, The Ring, and Hellgate 100k Reflections.”

Westminster, MD

Entry opens: Jan 1, 2026

31 miles of trails, old woods roads, open fields, and plenty of hills with a couple of stream crossings thrown in just for fun.

50.2 miles

Clifton, VA

Entry opens: Oct 1, 2025

A 50 mile trail run that parallels the Bull Run and the Occoquan River in northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. The course traverses forested, rolling terrain during the height of Virginia’s spring beauty. The run’s unique character includes a Civil War theme that honors the battles that occurred here over 150 years ago. The 13 hour time limit makes Bull Run Run an excellent first 50 miler.

Fort Valley, VA

Entry opens: Oct 31, 2025

A challenging, rocky 100 miler on the trails of the Massanutten Mountains in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. The course includes short but rugged mountain climbs with more than 18,000 feet of total ascent. There is a 36-hour cutoff.

Events are open to the public and free to enter, but do require prior registration and many have entry limits.

Clifton, VA

Come out and get some easy rolling miles on the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail! Starting at the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park trailhead at the end of Yates Ford Road at 8 am, this run will cover the northern section of the course that makes up the first 17 miles of the BRR 50 Miler.

A party for all VHTRC members, to announce and honor the winners of the VHTRC awards for the previous calendar year. RSVP will open for the party right after the New Year.

Fairfax Station, VA

Since it can be easy for the uninitiated to get lost, “Death by Do Loop” is a chance to become familiar with this section of the Bull Run Run 50 mile course, while seeing how many laps you can do.

Fort Valley, VA

Entry opens: Aug 31, 2025
Entry closes: Feb 15, 2026

Why anyone who has completed The Ring would want to do this is anyone’s guess. Entry is open only to those in the Fellowship, so the rest of you can breathe a sigh of relief and run Hashawha Hills. Daisy Weill and Jesse Fuller are in charge.

This MMT training run covers the middle third of MMT, from Elizabeth Furnace to Camp Roosevelt.

15.5 miles

Fairfax Station, VA

This final run in the three run series of training events for the Bull Run Run 50 Miler covers the sections of the course between the Fountainhead and Marina aid stations, almost entirely on the BROT.

A challenging, low-key 50 km in the Elizabeth Furnace area of the Massanutten Mountains, utilizing the old Dogwood Half Hundred course. Excellent training for those inclined to run the MMT 100 miler in May.

Entry opens: Feb 16, 2026

This MMT training run covers the final third of the Massanutten 100 miler course, from Camp Roosevelt to the finish.

Low-key runs with no formal sign-up. Just show up and run.

7-10 miles

Washington, DC

Explore the trails of Rock Creek Park on these low-key runs. We leave at 8:00 am from either Peirce Mill or Theodore Roosevelt Island and the runs are roughly 7–10 miles long.

Syria, VA

Also known as “Shenandoah’s National Park’s greatest hits,” this 24-mile loop’s highlights include White Oak Canyon, Hawksbill, Stony Man, all connected by beautiful ridge running on the Appalachian Trail.

Washington, VA

Smooth, runnable loop up and over the Blue Ridge and back. Wear red, white, and blue.

Sun Jul 5

15.5 miles

Washington, VA

A figure-eight loop on the trails in Shenandoah National Park, featuring an opening climb up Little Devil Stairs, a mid-run stop at Elkwallow, some excellent views from Hogback, and a long, bombing downhill finish. Also the shortest of the three Trifecta runs, but one that will still present a fair challenge for your running legs!

Nethers, VA

Often referred to as “Shenandoah’s National Park’s greatest hits,” this 25-mile loop’s highlights include White Oak Canyon, Hawksbill, Stony Man, all connected by beautiful ridge running on the Appalachian Trail.
