Gahhhhh, I never know what to say…..
The volunteers make this run absolutely freaking awesome! From the Friday course markers to the aid station volunteers and sweeps to the finish line party crew, this event CANNOT be successful without them.
Anthony Wolosik, coming off a 100+ mile week in Colorado pacing a good friend and fellow Furbutt at Hardrock, came blazing into first at this year’s CFA 50k with a sub 5 hour finish - 4:57. A quick 2nd and 3rd for Sebastien Simko and Bradley Hawley.
The birthday girl, Whitney Richman, a newcomer to CFA, came in 1st for the women with a quick time of 5:39. Despite taking a bad fall and winning Best Blood, Whitney also asked some questions about MMT100. Maybe we will see her in May? Keavy Baylor was not far behind Whitney securing 2nd, and Martha Nelson wrapped up the podium with a third place finish.
The weather this year followed a recent CFA pattern. This is the third consecutive year that Chelsea Smith has been in charge of the CFA, and for the third year, the weather was unusually mild for mid-July in the mid-Atlantic. The clouds and cooler conditions were welcome, and even some early- to mid-afternoon rain helped lead 60 of the 68 starters to get their CFA finisher’s sticker.
4 teams, led by Brian McNeil, marked trails early Friday morning. All the runners appreciated the well-marked course!
Our aid stations were top notch this year battling it out with the rain that moved in. Chef Jeff Best even fed the volunteers ribs and dogs!
The after party…the rain doesn’t stop the hostess with the mostest, Katie Keier, and her amazing friends at the famous Party In The Parking Lot post-race! They REALLY know how to throw a fun party in the woods! Despite the rain, we had a large gathering with new runners and veterans sharing stories while snarfing down tasty burgers, dog and cold beverages.
