The Fast Kids refueling at the end of the run: James Coyne, Brennan Henning and Amanda Presgraves

The 2026 MMT 3rd training run ushered in spring again this year with 25 starting runners and 19 finishers. Runners started out promptly at 6:01 from the horse lot. Previous rain made Duncan Hollow pretty muddy, but the absence of bugs was quite a reward. The first few hours the runners had some amazing weather but as the day went on, temperatures rose and some unacclimated runners were second guessing their life decisions. Other runners chose to embrace the heat and keep on long sleeves and gloves for heat training. Wait, what??

Several runners decided to do a party route and not do Bird Knob. A couple of other runners decided to come out and do their own thing and visit us at the end. The first aid station was womaned by Alisa Springman and Sheila Vibert serving up Hawaiian sliders and a bunch of other good stuff.

At the second aid station, we had Chelsea Butler and Dan Aghdam serving up those French fries that are becoming a bit famous now. The finish line saw Dan Fogg first to complete this training run with a time of 6:32 and Eric Garmon in at 6:50. Amanda Presgraves channeled all that prerace energy to get 1st female coming in at 7:29 followed by Denise Gravell at 8:10.

The finish line had Jeff Best cooking ribs, chicken, grilled cheese, risotto, and soup, with your Training Academy hosts Christian and Elaina Stanton greeting, cooking and all around enjoying the company of runners and volunteers.

This was our fifth-year hosting this run and we look forward to many more. We can’t thank the volunteers, runners, and VHTRC enough for making this special training run possible. Rigley and Dexter also thank everyone for making this the best day of the year for them!

Rigley and Dexter on high alert at the finish, and particularly on the lookout for wayward pieces of chicken and cheese in the Camp Roosevelt Horse Lot.

And here is our usual admonition regarding the “results” below… Bear in mind: this is not a competitive event. No one treated this as a competitive event. These should not be considered “competitive event results.” The times are provided for informational purposes only. This can help others who pull the route from the event site and run the course self-supported, so that those runners can approximate times. It can assist those considering this training run in future years to estimate their own run times. And it is helpful for volunteers to see the range of times that runners take to cover certain sections.
